Holiday Season Love Online

By Anne Patrick

Cheery activities with family, friends, and co-workers are just around the corner. If you do not have a love interest in your life, you may be worried about spending the holidays alone. Some say a couple of months is not enough time to get to know someone well enough to take them to the company Christmas party. Some are okay with going it alone, and still others are turning to the internet to find their love interest. Spending time with someone during the holidays can actually give you good insight into what a person is really like.

How the Holidays Can Help You Learn

Are Kids a Priority? - A child's excitement around the holidays adds to enjoyment. How will your dating partner act around children? This often indicates whether the person likes children and is willing to interact with them.

How Do They Interact With Family & Friends?- Will they be pleasant around your family and friends if you take them to a get together? Do they interact? Bring wine or other small gift for the hostess?? You can tell a lot about people by watching them interact. If they seem jealous, that is a red flag, for instance.

Can You Count On Them? - We all know how much time can be spent preparing for a party, especially for areas like the menu. You may be purchasing a special outfit just for the night or have to hire a sitter. Can you count on the person who is supposed to go with you to show up and in a timely manner? Is there attire fit for the occasion? You don't want a love interest who you cannot depend on.

Alcohol & Drugs - Enjoying a few cocktails aside, but they may be using the holidays as an excuse - You don't want to spend the holidays dealing with an addict, much less your life!

Gift Exchange - You may have only known this person a few months, how would you feel with the gift exchange issue? . Would you have this figured out between the two of you beforehand? In my opinion, if you've been finding joy in the person's company, there is nothing wrong with presenting the other person with a small token, nothing major - but it is the season of giving!. Which brings us to our next point...

Spending During a Recession - There is currently a recession, and the holidays are not going to make that go away. Nevertheless, people still want to enjoy the holidays, but will scale back spending on celebrations. Will your partner be ok without splurging?? Are they empathetic to others? Maybe you volunteer your time at a shelter or kitchen - would they help out??

Don't Be Unrealistic

Don't lose site of the fact that these ARE the holidays, a time of added stress. Truthfully, many are actually depressed during this season. Your partner could have a lot on their plate. So don't be depending your love interest to keep you happy and joyful all season. - 32510
